OUT PATIENT CLINIC  (OPC)

 

This is the out-patient department of the hospital. It caters for the needs of patients already discharged from the hospital.

The clinic is headed by ADNS Ohwadua.

 

UNIT ACTIVITIES

  • Organizing workloads.
  • Observation of patients' vital signs.
  • Building relationships with reassuring by listening to and taking to patients.
  • Combating stigma and helping patients and their families manage it.
  • Ensuring that all patients that come to the clinic are attended to with minimal delay or no delay    at all.
  • Monitoring progress of patients.
  • Giving counsel and arranging support for patients, relatives and carers.
  • Liasing with doctors, social workers and other professionals.
  • Assessing treatment success at case conference and meetings.
  • Writing and updating the hospital about the activities of the unit on weekly, quarterly and annual basis.
  • Encouraging patients to take part in therapeutic activities such as Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Occupational Therapy etc.
  • Administration of PRN, routine psychotropic injections and others.
  • Admission of patients in dare need of it into the ward.
  • Giving of health education tailored to individual patients.

Pediatric chronic physical illness and adult psychiatric disorders are substantial sources of burden for family care-takers, but little attention has been paid to parental burden resulting from children's or adolescents' psychiatric disorders.

Child and adolescent psychiatry or Pediatric Psychiatry is a branch of psychiatry that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders in children, adolescents, and their families. Someone with substance abuse disorder (drugs or alcohol) and mental illness (depression, PTSD, anxiety, OCD, etc.), the diagnosis is called a co-occurring disorder. Any combination of mental health disorders and substance abuse or addiction qualifies for this diagnosis (sometimes referred to as a dual diagnosis), such as alcoholism and depression, anorexia and cocaine dependence, post-traumatic stress disorder and heroin addiction, prescription drug dependence and anxiety, and more.
