2017 SLEEP SEMINAR: THE MAIDEN EDITION

The Sleep disorders unit of the Federal Neuro Psychiatric Hospital (FNPH), Yaba held its maiden sleep disorders seminar on the 12th of July, 2017 at the conference hall of the FNPH Yaba, Lagos. The event was declared open by the Medical Director of the Hospital in person of Dr. (Mrs.) O.C. Ogun in company of the top management committee members of the Hospital.

The facilitators during the one day event were Dr Olatunji Olaoye (US based sleep physician) and Dr Adefemi Adeoye (a psychiatrist and sleep physician who recently completed his clinical fellowship in sleep medicine at the University of Toronto, Canada). Dr Olaoye provided a brief introduction to sleep disorders in general and later spoke in detail on sleep apnea while Dr Adeoye’s intervention was in the area of management of insomnia and also presented an overview of the one year clinical fellowship training experience he had. Participants were drawn from within and outside the Hospital including Dr Olotu (Medical Director, Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Uselu).

The Hospital’s sleep disorders unit currently runs its clinic on Tuesdays by noon at the Total Diagnostic Building (opposite the Hospital Library). The sleep Laboratory has also commenced operation at the same location.

Pediatric chronic physical illness and adult psychiatric disorders are substantial sources of burden for family care-takers, but little attention has been paid to parental burden resulting from children's or adolescents' psychiatric disorders.

Child and adolescent psychiatry or Pediatric Psychiatry is a branch of psychiatry that focuses on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of mental disorders in children, adolescents, and their families. It investigates the biopsychosocial factors that influence the development and course of these psychiatric disorders and treatment responses to various interventions.Contact our Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service Center

Individual differences in posttraumatic response and recovery are the result of complex interactions among person, event, and environmental factors. These interactions define the interrelationship of individual and community and together may foster or impede individual recovery. In attending to the social, cultural and political context of victimization and acknowledging that survivors of traumatic experiences may recover without benefit of clinical intervention.
